Legend relates that the name of this imposing estate originates with Connétable Talbot, a famous English warrior, defeated at the battle of Castillon 1453. Talbot is one of the Medoc’s oldest estates, its glory never tainted. Talbot wine is a champion of longevity; even young Talbot is pleasant and rounded, always characterized by silky, mild and very civilized tannins. It’s a racy wine, with complex marks of Havana tobacco and liquorice, classically delicious without ever the slightest hint of austerity.
The 2012 is dense and deep ruby in colour. It possesses a perfumed nose of violet and blackberry with mineral undertones. It is fresh and energetic on the palate, with suave flavours of dark berries, minerals and dry herbs. This captivating Talbot has lovely length and balance. It is round, sweet, half body, unwooded, with a semi-intense nose, medium complexity mouth. Pairs well with mushrooms, green vegetables, dried vegetables, red meat, game, ham, white meats, as well as soft or dry cheeses.
